Welcome
Newcomers to San Diego
The
Chaldean Community welcomes our dear brothers and sisters who
are entering San Diego as refugees. They fled their country of
Iraq because of the inhumane killings, threats, and ethnic
cleansing the Christians are facing in their homeland for the
past few years.
“These
families or individuals need our help.
We
are obligated to greet them with most respect and love,”
Bishop Sarhad Yawsip Jammo pointed out at the onset of his
homily greeting the Newcomers on Sunday Sep.23, 2007. He also
explained that we should not consider our help & donations
toward them as alms or kindness, but as aid and
rescue to a relative in need. Most of these families were not
needy or poor in their houses, they had jobs and families, but
they had to leave everything behind to avoid being kidnapped or
killed.
