Mr. Tony Oshana
Recognized
as the Chaldean Community Person of
the Year 2007 in the Field of Philanthropy

Whereas
Tony was born in Dehouk
on April 13, 1966. Since childhood, he was very ambitious and
looked for a bright future in his life. His banner was that “a
ladder is not meant to sit on, but to climb UP.” Being an AVID
(Advancement via Individual Determination) person, he took giant
steps in his life without fear and lots of courage. At the age
of 13, he left Iraq for Vienna and headed to Athens, Greece.
After three years, his dream came through, and he was granted a
refuge visa to come to America, the Country of his dreams. On
November 18, 1984, he arrived in Redding, Pennsylvania and
worked for a company owned by an Italian family who embraced him
as a member of their family. He finished his high school
education and remained with this family for eight years. From
there he left for Anaheim, California, where he joined forces
with his brother, George Oshana, in the auto glass business. It
was George who taught Tony the auto glass trade. His
perseverance and determination for success motivated him in July
of 1989 to open two auto glass locations proved to be very
successful under his management.
Whereas
Tony married his cousin, Nina, on April 24, 1993. The couple
lived in Anaheim, where they established their first Low Price
Auto Glass Corporation that proved to be extremely successful
and profitable. Nina stood by Tony like a tower of strength in
managing the daily affairs of their business. Later, they moved
to Fresno, California in May of 1994, after selling their
business in Anaheim. They immediately opened two auto glass
locations, which became, until today, their two prime profitable
locations. From then on, they expanded their business by opening
more than 100 other locations of Low Price Auto Glass in 40
(forty) states. I guess the old saying is true that “behind
every successful man, there is a great woman.”
Whereas
Tony had made frequent
visits to San Diego. He invested in real estate both in Fresno
and San Diego. He and his wife immediately realized that their
hearts were in San Diego to be close to their Chaldean Church
and community. Finally, they moved to San Diego in August of
2002, and decided to be active in their Chaldean Church and
community. While here, Tony enrolled at Cuyamaca College for two
courses in Business Management and English. He also ventured in
the limousine business known as “Flamingo Limousine.” In
addition, he opened two auto glass locations. In October of
2006, the couple, opened up “Ishtar Jewelry” with Mazin Toma to
serve the jewelry needs of the community. Tony and Nina, with
their two daughters and one son, are extremely happy to be
living in San Diego, close to their Chaldean Church, their
beloved bishop, dear priests, and friends.
Therefore, it has been resolved
by the Awarding Committee of the Chaldean Catholic Diocese of
St. Peter the Apostle to be recognized as the Chaldean Community
Person of the Year 2007 in the Field of Philanthropy.
