ST. PAUL’S ASSYRIAN CHALDEAN
CATHOLIC CHURCH, LOS ANGELS, CA
This Friday evening at 7pm, St.
Paul’s church remembered the
crucifixion of our Lord, Jesus
Christ. Fr. Noel Gorgis along
with Fr. Tommy lead the faithful
in a spiritual reflection on the
life and the death of our Lord
and Savior, Jesus Christ. The
deacons and the choir chanted
prayers reciting the story of
the passion of Jesus and the
emotional journey of his mother
and our mother, Mary, as she
witnessed her Son’s ultimate
sacrifice to save humanity.
The commemoration of the passion
included about a 15 minute
excerpt from Mel Gibson’s movie
“The Passion of the Christ”.
The faithful gathered were moved
to tears of sorrow as they
watched on a movie projector
Christ’s agony and human
suffering. Following the
procession with the casket
bearing the crucified body of
Christ, the commemoration
service concluded with the
faithful kissing the figure of
the crucified Christ. The
faithful were handed flowers
after kissing the figure of the
body of Christ and each person
also was given a bitter cup of
wine reminding each faithful of
the bitterness of death and of
the great sacrifice of the Son
of God for our own salvation.
