A Rally In Phoenix, Arizona
in Support of our Christian people in Iraq
On Wednesday June 27 2007 Mar Abraham
Chaldean Catholic Church and the Chaldean community of
Arizona organized a peace rally at patriot square in down
town phoenix, approximately 250 people attended the rally to
express their solidarity with the Christians of Iraq. The
rally started at approx. 10:45 am and ended at approx. 12:00
noon the demonstrators walked three blocks carrying American
and Iraqi flags and banners in English and Arabic denouncing
the inhumane treatment and persecution of Iraqi Christians.
The master of ceremony was Amir Sitto
who started the rally with a moment of silence in honor and
memory of the military service men and women who lost their
lives in Iraq, also in memory of father Ragheed, the
Chaldean priest and three sub deacons who were killed in
Iraq in June2007. Then Mr. Sitto on behalf of mar Abraham
Chaldean Catholic Church, father poulos ghozairan and the
Chaldean community of Arizona thanked all the priests and
people of other churches, and the speakers for their
attendance and support.
Mr. Sitto read a statement issued by
the Vatican regarding Father Ragheed who was killed in Iraq.
Then he introduced the speakers, the first was Maricopa
County Attorney Mr. Andrew Thomas, the second was Father
Khoury of the Maronite church, third was Father Boutrous of
the Melkite church, fourth was Amir Sitto of the chaldean
community of Arizona, the last speaker was Father Ghozarian
of the Chaldean Church of Arizona, who spoke in Chaldean and
Arabic. All of the speakers spoke in support of all of the
people of Iraq, but especially of the Christians of Iraq, by
appealing to the Iraqi government, non government official
and religious leaders to intervene and stop the acts of
violence, kidnappings, killing and other atrocities against
them, so that all people in Iraq can live in peace. They
appealed also to the United States government, international
community, and humanitarian organizations to also intervene
and end the suffering of Iraqi Christians.
