Iraqi Orphans Adoption
When Scott Southworth
first journeyed to Iraq, he was serving as commander of the
Wisconsin
National Guard's 32nd Military Police Company. But when he
returned a second time, he was on a different mission -- to rescue a
little boy he had first met as a volunteer at the
Mother Teresa Orphanage in Baghdad for mentally and
physically handicapped kids. He brought 10-year-old Ala'a, who is
afflicted with cerebral palsy, home to America to become his
adoptive son.
Lucky Severson talks with Southworth
about how his faith inspired him to adopt a disabled child and
helped focus his attention on bringing other handicapped Iraqi
orphans to the U.S. "When God calls you to do something, He also
paves the way to make it possible," Southworth explains. "He doesn't
do it for you, but He's opened all the doors necessary for us to be
able to be a father and son"
