Bishop Mar Bawai Soro
celebrated Holy Qurbana at Saint Matthew Catholic Parish in
Ceres, CA, on Sunday, March 1, 2009. Our Pastor Fr. Michael
Barota, the deacons along with the faithful all gathered to
see Mar Bawai with a joyful heart and welcoming spirit.
After reading the
Sunday Gospel (Mt. 7:15-27), he preached about the Wise and
Foolish Builders (Mt. 7:24-27) explaining how vital it was
to hear the Word of God and put it into practice. “We are
called” Mar Bawai said “to lead our lives by trusting and
following God’s ways and by making the right choices just as
the wise builder chose to build his house on a solid
foundation. It withstood strong rain and severe storms.
Bishop Soro expressed
his confidence in the collective judgment of Saint Matthew’s
parishioners and in their witness to Christ and His Church
through their recent unity which they achieved with the
Chaldean Church. He informed the community about his
enthusiasm of serving at St. Peter Cathedral in San Diego,
CA, after his recent move there emphasizing his joy in
living and working side by side with our Diocesan Bishop Mar
Sarhad Yawsip and the rest of the clergy and faithful there.
Mar
Bawai stated that Mar Sarhad Yawsip will join us during the
upcoming celebration of the first anniversary of the church
merger in May 2009. The faithful of Saint Matthew Parish
received the Holy Communion, and wished both Mar Sarhad and
Mar Bawai along with the clergy of the Diocese in San Diego
all the best in their ministry.
