St. Mary’s Assyrian Chaldean Catholic Church of San Jose
Celebrates the Year of the Priest
Celebrating the year
of the priest declared by the Holy Father, Benedict XVI, to
commemorate 150th anniversary of St. John Vianney, St. Mary's
Assyrian Chaldean Catholic Church organized a pilgrimage to Mission
San Carlos Borromeo at Carmel, CA, and San Carlos Cathedral of
Monterey, CA.
108 people
participated in this pilgrimage. They departed from the church at
9:30 a.m. in two buses, and the pilgrimage was started with
prayer.
The first
stop was at Mission San Carlos Borromeo, also known as Mission
Carmel. The group visited and prayed in the church mission church
and at the grave of its founder, Blessed Junipero Serra. The people
were very deeply moved to see the very simple room where he lived.
After the
visit of the mission, the group went to a very nice restaurant and
enjoyed lunch together. Then they had free time in downtown Carmel
until 5:00 p.m.
From Carmel
the group of pilgrims went to Monterey where they attended the Holy
Mass celebrated by Rev. Yoshia Sana in the Cathedral of San Carlos,
which is more than 200 years old.
In his
homily, Rev.
Yoshia Sana
talked about the year of the priest and the life of St. John
Vianney, the patron saint of all parish priests. He asked the
parents to encourage their children who feel that they are called by
the Lord the priesthood or religious life. The Mass was served the
subdeacons and the choir of our church.
May the
Lord help all the priests of his Church, and give us more workers
for his vineyard.
