St. Thomas Catholic Church of
Turlock California celebrated the First Communion of 21 of its
sons and daughters during the weekend of June 23, 2012. His
Excellency Mar Sarhad Yawsip Jammo bishop of Chaldean catholic
Diocese of St. Peter the Apostle celebrated the Mass for the
First Communicants, along with Fr. Auraha Mansoor, Fr. Peter
Sulaqa and Fr. Michael Barota from St. Matthew’s Parish in
Ceres, CA. Some of the children receiving their First Communion
were from St. Matthew’s Parish.
During his sermon, Mar Sarhad urged the community
to be faithful in educating their children about their faith as
taught by the Catholic Church. He also encouraged the children
to be involved in their parishes and take part in the Church
activities. Finally, he thanked the Sisters who were present for
all their hard work and dedication in preparing the children to
receive the Sacrament.
