Rally at Granada Liquor Remembering Firas Esso Gayada

*********************************************

The horrendous murders of Firas Esso Gayada and Heather Mattia were remembered once again today, as a rally held place at Granada Liquor to protest the refusal of the United States Embassy to bring the elderly parents of Firas to America on a temporary visa to bury their son. The 23-year-old Firas was working two jobs to save enough money in attempts of bringing his parents to America. As of now, the U.S. Embassy in Amman, Jordan, has denied to comment or provide an explanation for reason they refused Wahid Pitros and Salma Eleya entrance to the United States simply for their son’s burial. Firas’s body will currently remain in the mortuary. The parents have appealed the denial but will not hear the response until Sunday.

The rally at Granada Liquor gathered hundreds, all in support of allowing the parents of Firas to come join their son for one last ritual. For more than an hour, voices chanted “Let his parents come, let his parents come!” Posters, pictures and candles were held in remembrance, but in addition to the heartfelt sadness is a new anger at the embassy for the denial of his parent’s visa.

Chaldeans have been urging close friends and family to make any contacts to local and federal representatives and senators to persuade the U.S. embassy in Jordan in hopes of persuading them to reconsider.

Another rally is planned to take place at 11pm tonight, where several hundred people are once again expected to assemble and speak openly to protest the denial of visas. The murder of Heather and Firas was monstrous and if the parents of Firas were granted approval of a temporary visa, if would alleviate only a small fraction of the incredible pain felt of a brutal act committed. May Heather and Firas both rest in peace under the watch of God.
