Mrs. Najiba Sesi Seiba

Recognized

as the Chaldean Community Person of the Year 2006 in the Field of Charity

Whereas Mrs. Najiba Seiba was born in the Iraqi town of Telkepe in 1929 in a very devout Christian family.  Her father Daoud Sesi was very respected man as a deacon and the head of the town Telkepe.  She was married in 1957 to Mr. Yousif Seiba and had three children: Jenny, the twins Michael, and Nora. Although, Mr. Yousif Seiba passed away in 1963 and left Najiba as a single mother with three small children, she remained strong in her faith to raise her children by her examples instilled in them qualities such as courage, perseverance, faith, and charity.  These qualities increased due to her love to help the poor and her faith in God.  Mrs. Najiba Seiba came to the United States with her children in 1978.

Whereas Mrs. Najiba Seiba is one of the founders and President of the Sacred Heart Sodality of Saint Peter’s Cathedral which was founded in 1983 with 60 members; they have increased over the years and they count 300 members today. In the last 23 years, the Sacred Heart Sodality has raised money in various ways to assist the needy in our Chaldean communities throughout the world, especially in our mother land Iraq; an assistance being not restricted to Chaldeans, this small organization has also offered many help to non-Chaldeans and to people of different faiths as well. One would assume that this group must have some sophisticated plans in order to accomplish such success. The answer is no. The group simply gather together weekly after mass for social hour and play Bingo. Yes Bingo, amazingly enough, this humble method has generated thousands and thousands of dollars for the needy.

Whereas This lady is truthfully considered as a remarkable woman in her love, and symbol of charity that is shining in the midst of our Chaldean community.  Indeed, her hard work and dedication reflect on Our Lord‘s teaching, “Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.” (Matthew 25:40)  Even when she is sick, she continues to seek and encourage others to help. Mrs. Najiba Seiba has been a great role model and example of compassion and dedication.

Therefore, it has been resolved by the Awarding Committee of the Chaldean Catholic Diocese of St. Peter the Apostle to be recognized as the Chaldean Community Person of the Year 2006 in the Field of Charity.
